Not only did they comment about appeasing Sony's fears, but now they are talking about how they "trust" Nintendo not to ruin the gaming industry. Gmafb, this is purely Microsoft flexing it's muscle and showing off how much power they have with the Microsoft acquisition of Activision.

The funny thing for them is that Nintendo could couldn't care less as Nintendo's CEO has stated that Nintendo is not in competition with Sony or Microsoft. And that's true as for decades Nintendo has done their own thing and continues to exist as a separate operator within the gaming industry.

Phil also made a statement about Valve, it's really sickening to me.
You're framing this very insidiously imo. He said he trusts Nintendo as a long standing presence in the gaming industry, as he does Sony. He is wary of all the outside competitors like Netflix and Amazon who want a piece of the cake. If Activision Blizzard were in such a state they needed buying out, better MS do it than Netlix or Amazon who have no business being in the gaming sphere and who would add additional costs to gamers. Do we honestly think Sony or Nintendo were going to shell out 70bn for them? Sometimes it's a case of better the devil you know.

Forgive me for not letting anything passed a corporation whose only job is to make money.

Why would Phil make these statements directly after the purchase of a major gaming studio. He certainly didn't make them out of the goodness of his heart. This is business, this is capitalism in it's purest forum. I'll trust Microsoft's handling of this as much as I trust Google with my private data. If it earns them a profit you can bet they will pull the trigger.

People keep bringing google and amazon and while there is a possibility of such a thing, that isn't an excuse for Microsoft at all. If we had competent lawmakers then we wouldn't have to worry about corporate takeover of the gaming industry period. Every single one of these companies are out for themselves, especially Microsoft. There no honor among these entities. It's all a game, a bid to see who can outpace and outperform the competition, even if it means snuffing the competition out. I've seen enough of this crap in my life time to know exactly where this road will lead.

If Microsoft was honorable then they wouldn't suddenly make all of Bethesda games exclusive right after saying how they planned to support the competition. They wouldn't have to play around with the meaning of their words if everything they said was honest and trustworthy.

Because the likes of Netflix and amazon don't want to make money? Its valid to bring them up. How is them acquiring the studio and then barring access to the games behind a subscription no one currently has to pay, and will still not have to pay now, any better? Given Netflix pulled put their Stranger things content from dead by daylight to promote their own game of a completely different genre, do you honestly think it would have been better? Someone was going to buy the studio. Personally I'm happier someone who is based in the world of gaming has them.

I never said I want that to happen. I'm saying that isn't justification for Microsoft making such a power move that has the potential to drastically change the landscape. The end doesn't justify the means. Also if they are worth $70 billion then Netflix definitely wouldn't have the capital to make such a massive purchase and still produce their films. Amazon while having capital doesn't have the game plan to make such a move right now. Again this is $70 billion we are talking about. They'd need to do research and come up with a game plan to utilize all those assets to their fullest potential, which is why Amazon probably hasn't made any moves and likely won't make any for several years to come.

Charmed, I think you’re giving too much credit to the government right now. Most of the time when the government talks about video games at all it’s to say they cause violence and we should have less video games.

They’re not gonna give one iota of a **** about Microsoft acquiring Actiblizz

I beg to differ

I'm not saying they are going to drop everything and work on this issue. I'm just saying when it comes time for them to review this deal as they review all big deals like this I hope they make the right decision.

Yeah, I think governments see video games with a bit more nuance now than they used to.

Though on the matter of sexual assault, Microsoft seems to be doing pretty well, so probably a point in their favor on review.

Video games aren't really the government's concern. Business is but MS will have a good legal department and I suspect they'll use their angle of honoring exclusives/ protecting the industry from outside sources that are more damaging for the consumer in the long run. I doubt MS has done enough to be considered as having a Monopoly.
