Underworld is connected in an unintentional way to Anniversary.
The level Arctic sea starts in an area, which was dry land once. That building holds a place called Yggdrasil, which leads to the midgard serpent. According to Natla, it's the place where Pangea broken in two. If we can believe her, then that's the reason, why it's underwater now. Let's go to TRA. One of the most generic knowledge about Atlantis, is that it's buried underwater. TRA even inherited this, stating on Tihocan's coffin. ("lost beneath the waves") Now... when Natla got imprisoned, Atlantis had already problems, hence why Natla's fate was so harshly decided. (plus she'd turned Qualopec into a disabled guy) So, in theory: Atlantis was in trouble, probably because of the rising sea levels; which was caused by first Pangea got broken in two, then probably the nordlings were tinkering with it, only to realize, that it can destroy the world and somehow creating the eitr along the way.* I assume Thor figured, that Yggrasil needs to be sealed off and be protected. He also realized, that only his power was enough (which says something, if the most advanced civilization -Atlanteans- was unable to do anything) to stop Ragnarok -the rise of the 7th age. So he hid his stuff all over the world, leaving clues for Odin (let's forget the reuniting bs) for safetyguard, in case hell broke loose. Since Natla was imprisoned she couldn't go after them, so Odin never needed the hammer. This could be what Natla referred to as 'Wheels of Kathar'; chain of events that would put Ragnarok in motion. *The eitr referred to as the midgard serpent's poison, but what if, it was something created by the ancient nordic people, to cool off the hole in the ground and unintentionally revived the dead.(a benefical side effect) When Thor fought the snake and got bit; then took seven steps and died, could be a simple workplace related accident, in which he died. (goes along with Lara's statement, that "archeology is half metaphor") Also that place's demise is, what led ultimately to the rising sea level, which eventually consumed Atlantis too. This speculation does make some sense of the tip of iceberg amount of information we received in LAU as a whole. Not to forget the first location Lara visited in Underworld is an ancient temple called the Niflheim which like Yggdrasil (Arctic Sea), was lost below the Med Sea. Natla also mentioned that the Lost Island is just one remnant of Atlantis so we can presume what happened to the rest.
Then there's the whole 'swords and daises' thing in Legend which leaves one wondering whether it's Atlantean or Norse technology. There's a symbol of the sword on the gateway into Valhalla where Thor's Hammer is located. There's a sword and dais in Helheim (Avalon?) as well. Then there's the whole time travel thing and how that fits in is anyone's guess. Last edited by ATombRaiderFan; 17-06-20 at 16:25. |

(Do not post in these old threads, it counts as bumping, which is against the rules...) There was the excalibur, which got separated into pieces, then Lara recovered and reattached them. Location Croft Manor's vault. (probably) There was the sword, that Amelia used in Nepal. Origin unknown. This is the same sword, that Lara uses 3 decades later. Location Croft manor's vault. (probably) I'd wager, that the Mjolnir was the "master key" to the daises. Also whatever the nordlings found at Yggdrasil and Helheim (maybe some kind of meteorite?) was the key to build them. It could also mean, that there was some kind of global peace between civilizations, which were born from the atlantean culture initially. (similar symbolism) That would explain the links Now the only question is, why did Natla exactly wanted to ruin this. In AU universe she doesn't have the obsession of speeding up evolution, but generally rule the world. Either way, something did went wrong, destroying Atlantis; and its remnants, are the smaller civilizations that we know of today. (incans, egyptians, vikings etc.) As for the time travel... I don't think it was time travelling per se, but an error in the system. Which could've been solved, if Lara listens to Amanda. If Lara pulls the sword out, she (and Amanda) would've ended up in Yggdrasil. The problem is, if that would change Amelia's fate or not. The reason why I don't believe the dais had a time travel function, because then, they would've been able to see the future and shape it in their favor: saving Atlantis, for example. Thanks Zsott for linking those threads. Very interesting to read all the theories and speculation behind the monomyth
______________________________ Here's the symbol of the Legend sword on the gateway into Valhalla where Thor's Hammer is located. You can see it on the forehead. See image 1. I originally thought Lara gave Amanda the scar at the end of Legend when she whacked her face with the pistol. Nope, Amanda's cheek got grazed when Lara was shooting at her in the Med Sea. I’ve been thinking about how the rivaly between Lara and Werner mirrors, sometimes invertedly, to one between LAUra and Amanda. See image 1.
Both duos have a history that is playable in both Last Revelation and Legend. See image 2. Werner and Amanda’s attempt to seize the McGuffin resulted in the place collapsing or flooding. See image 3. Lara and Laura had no choice but to leave their friend behind, for dead. We learn later the Iris has teleportation powers which may have been how Werner escaped, and the Wraith Stone creature saved Amanda from drowning. See image 4. Reunited in Alexandria, Lara asked Werner mockingly how his leg is, a reference to Werner injury in Cambodia. Laura took the chance to apologize to Amanda over what happened in Peru. “I don’t care” Amanda might as well have said before asking "Oh what is it archeologist do? Oh right, dig.” See image 5. In Chronicles Lara went through great length to recover the Iris from Von Croy from New York. Likewise Amanda sent the doppelganger to recover the Wraith Stone from Croft Manor. On both counts, the artefact that led to the animosity between both rivals remain the source of their rift. See image 6. Once again having saved the world, both Lara and Laura found their fates in the hand of their antagonist. As Werner urged Lara to move quickly “before it collapses all around you,” Lara was reluctant to trust him at first and enquired “No more Seth?”. Laura, realising the predicament of the situation and knowing the ritual won’t work without the functional rocks; took a leap of faith by stretching her hand out to Amanda. Hesitant at first, Amanda was tempted to escape alone but then decided to save her former friend. Poetic cinema. See image 7. Lara resented Werner for failing to catch her hand and pull her to safety, “Egypt, Werner, you walked away and left me.” An uneasy truce remain between Laura and Amanda and so that's how it ends. Here's Amanda's Wraith Stone changes between Legend and Underworld. You can see the Underworld Wraith Stone is based on the Legend Next Gen version.

The red marker on this map is the co-ordinate Natla provided Lara with. It is close to where the North American tectonic plate meets the Euroasian plate, and where the Midgard Serpant is situated to land a blow that would've triggered the Seventh Age.
The yellow marker to the south is the Jan Mayen island. It has the same oceanic ridge running through it. Plate boundaries also run through the Med Sea, Mexico and Thailand. Last edited by ATombRaiderFan; 02-03-24 at 09:09. |

Interesting enough, the big dudes, who're exploding into 5 energy balls are behaving like the onis in reboot. I'm kinda wondering, if they were an early version of them. This is kinda alings with my theory, that I've written earlier. The stone road in the arctic sea, that ends with the 6 thor statues, could led to the island. Now, if we could find out where the lost island in TRA was located... Last edited by Zsott; 01-07-20 at 19:20. |
