My guess is that the M16 with the laser sight became HKgun, Core had a tendency to finalise their weapon choices late in the development cycle.

Question The base???

There is also a M-16 model in The Base Wad that has a sniper scope mounted on it. Could it also be that???

Very possibly, is it on the carrying handle?

Could you get an image of it?

I dont know where these renders are from, but they show more weapons than ended up in the final game, also the M-16, though there doesnt seem to be a laser sight mounted.

I never understood why they felt the need to replace weapons instead of adding more. At least for Chronicles they could have put all the weapons from all the games as some kind of cheat or bonus.

I can't say for sure if the M16 was considered for the Tomb Raider Chronicles, but it seems to work pretty much the same as TR2 in slot of HK gun.
