What a laugh seeing those pictures in this thread
![]() It might be worthwhile digging the game out again and having a go at it again. |

My favourite thing to do while I wait for the TR remastered patches is reading through this thread. I think I just choked drinking my tea about three times.

I don't mean to be dramatic, but gameplay wise TRU has aged like milk.
The camera is atrocious and kinda jerks around a lot which makes me feel ill. The animations are horrible. They're so fast and just kinda happen. It's so uncanny valley. The magnetic detection of the the moves is really off. Lara most of the time will kick walls rather than try to latch onto ledges or will just hump the wall until the 'grab this bit' collision kicks in. She will regularly refuse to grab things when jumping or dropping. I honestly don't remember it being this bad way back when. I initially played on the PS3 and now have the 360 version so not sure if that bares any impact on it, but yeah add this on top of the flaws the game was already recognised for having (poor story, poor collectibles system and clunky combat) it's really a no-go for me now until there's a remaster... if there's a remaster. It's funny how time can change your mind because I used to be so harsh on Legend, but despite it's short length and simple desing I'd honestly say it's the most polished game out of the LAU trilogy. Where I used to class the games as TRA>TRU>TRL I'd probably now say TRL>TRA>TRU. TRA has a lot of the same issues as TRU regarding the inconsistency of her move set interacting well with the world and TRU is obviously leaps and bounds better looking that TRA, which somehow manages to be uglier than Legend despite coming after, but the other negatives mentioned above allow TRA to pip TRU. I would love to know what happened with the camera in TRU though. It worked fine in TRA and TRL. |

You used to be an ally
![]() However your criticism is totally understandable. About the wall jump, I would have done like that if I was a Crystal dev (lel) : I would have used the kick button, so "action" in the air, against the wall to perform a wall jump. Unlike in the game, Lara must not react automatically to a wall, and such not having those platforming weirdness when a ledge is involved. Maybe for the players to understand that Lara can't perform the move in some walls, they have to push the "kick" action first : if Lara is doing the wall jump, good. If not, she would do a "failed" animation, for instance she slips and falls instead. I believe this would work well ? |
