Maybe he left after reading some feedback from fans who very much disliked him saying he didn't do anything for TR!
well, realistically, it should have been in development since the end of TRA!
thats nearly 2 years!

I love how he says he lorded it over everyone else during TR1's development. Humble he is not, but then that's not news is it? I think he's already been a consultant for Crystal since Legend so now he's probably looking to take a similar role for any other projects out there. At least we know more now about what he's been doing and what his role is.

Toby was working on something for the last 8 months, he never said it was TR9 or even a main game. Maybe he was only working on dlc or multiplayer for TR9, or maybe it was something to do with future games. Toby leaves and it seems Crystal Dynamics start to staff up for starting a new game which would be one after TR9. TR9 is probably coming out next year, so it was started well before Jan 2009, it will probably take them 3 years to make the game same as for Legend and Underworld. Jason Botta still works at Crystal Dynamics and was not involved with TRU, he is Lead Designer on a game and was well before Jan 2009. Tim Longo has been Creative Director for a game since 2007 and it was not TRU.

It might have been the cancelled game he was working on back in 2007, it might have been TR9, but he is still even now Creative Director for a project, so it has to be a Tomb Raider game and is likely TR9. So no Toby Gard was probably never lead Designer for TR9. The DLC for TRU took 4 months to make, so what takes 8 months?

I am so glad someone raises this point, since everyone seemed to jump the gun at the time. I don't even think he worked on the next TR title in the first place...

O_O

That's unexpected! So this either means he is done with his job on the game or he left for some other reason...

Multiple projects?

Multiple projects?
They are advertising positions for a new game, so they have TR9 in development and have probably started pre-production for TR10. Then there is what ever Toby was working on which we still do not have a clue about, he likely finished it whatever it was, why would he have left before it was done? Might have been something to do with TR9 even if it was not the main game, might have been developing new ideas one of which might have been TR10.

*shrugs* This means nothing. The game will be what it was always going to be, Toby or no.
