"Shadow Of Tomb Raider ... Will Soon Be Free Of Unpopular Outfit Restrictions"

2. Is the game ever going to lighten up with its clothing restrictions?

Yes. ... There are three dozen outfits in the game, only a third of them tribal, but players can only put Lara in the tribal outfits when she is in the game’s massive hub, but not when she’s in any other areas. This restriction has frustrated many players. After all, if you go through the trouble to unlock a new outfit in a game, it can be annoying to not be allowed to wear it, even in a game that stresses realism and cultural immersion as much as possible. Fans have repeatedly asked for this to be patched out.

That restriction will be loosened for the Definitive Edition. “Players who have completed the game can choose to turn off outfit restrictions in the main game hub,” a rep said today. Anyone playing the game from the start will be forced to adhere to the old restrictions in their initial play-through but will then have more freedom in the endgame.

Changes made for the Definitive Edition will also be offered as part of a free update for Shadow of the Tomb Raider owners who bought the season pass. Those who have the game but don’t have the pass will be able to buy an upgrade to the full edition. It’s unclear if regular Shadow owners will get that outfit restriction change. We’re asking. Update - 6:00pm: A rep for the game confirms that everyone who has the game will get this change.
So basically it's still gonna remain then. Most of the time when you play the game, it's gonna be from start to finish... so if this restriction applies to a NG+ then... there's no change.

The first sentence is not true. It's the other way around. Fixed.

Lastly, having more freedom towards the endgame could mean, after beating amaru, you are free to wear anything...and if you start a NG+, then you are completely free to choose your attire throughout the entire game. Fair enough.

This is what I want clarified. If you can have the restriction removed and carry over to NG+ then that would be a massive win because it provides incentive to replay the game and we finally get a full removal of the stupid restriction.

Yea, the wording is vague.

if this means the restrictions is in place on normal New Game, but lifted in New Game+, it is EXACTLY how I expected and suggested some time ago. It's the most logical one, as it retains the original compromise of telling the story first how they intended, and then loosening it up to NG+ which already drops many rules by default

It seems so; also as it was pointed out; forced to wear tribal stuff (besides serpent guard) after passing some point of the story is unnecessary. If that's what they mean by having more freedom towards the endgame, then I'm actually pleasantly surprised!

be a game developer
give the game unnecesarry restrictions that nobody asked for
wait over a year
resell the game without restriction at full price

Well, to be fair, they probably never imagined the backlash the restriction would create

Also, the patches aren't charged. They're free updates, which is where the restrictions are lifted

Also, the DE is being sold cheaper than the standard edition

I agree with you Vaskito this seems to be the best compromise between the fans and the developer's vision.

We don't know that. There are three editions, and they've mentioned only CE's season pass being free... Maybe it's exclusively reserved to that.
