The world is ending (or supposed to be).

This should’ve been a fast paced race to stop it. Not twiddling around helping locals. They should’ve made better side missions OR not put them in at all OR made a story that would make sense to have side missions in the first place.
I agree with your point of view here! You’re right. I wish this game would have showed us more of the apocalypse and all that stuff.

It turned out so peaceful and especially with all side missions...

I've often entertained the idea that she had a fairly selfish motive for helping the locals. Besides her doing it to ease her guilt, I think helping the locals also gave her a way of exploring the ancient ruins in the area. Ruins that she would have no idea how to find on her own, considering she had only just found the spot.

I can see Classic Lara doing the same thing. Socializing with the locals to find out where all the ancient spots are. I just think in Reboot Lara's case, she at least appears to be slightly more genuine.

Nah, Classic Lara would have just killed the Paititi people like she butchered the natives in TR3.

If the people attacked her, then yes she would

While I agree with you, Lara’s guilt and her place in the grand scheme of things (like she says in the trailer: “I have to wonder, what will I become?”) are a part of the story too. If she was running from place to place, with little to no down time to explore or engage with the people she’s affecting, there’s not much room for her to grow or learn anything from the experience. She’d have just blundered through it trying to fix it.

There needed to be a better balance between the high stakes and the slower paced exploration/interpersonal stuff they had going on, which they obviously didn’t strike very well. I don’t think they had to cut side content completely though, just contextualise it better (basically have better missions, like you said). Who cares about Etzli’s coronation when the world is ending? A tomb that could shed answers or where you could retrieve an important relic to keep Unuratu in power and in turn stave off Trinity for longer? That sounds about right.

Who cares about his coronation when he's been kidnapped? I'm looking at you, Uchu! Priorities!

I recall in TR2013 how there's always a challenge tomb on the way to saving Captain Jessop. My mindset was always "Captain Jessop can wait!! I have to get that extra salvage!"
