Q1 2013: Bigger Competition for Tomb Raider than Fall 2012?

As Tomb Raider moved from Fall 2012 release to Q1 2013 release it doesn't mean there will be no competition for Tomb Raider in Q1 2013. As Karl also mentioned in the latest podcast saying, "There's always triple-A titles that are breathing down your neck or coming up right in front of you. You pick a window and you can guarantee that within a few weeks before or a few weeks after, there's some other big title coming out around you."

Q1 2013 is already looking promising. Here's some of the Q1 2013 titles.

South Park: The Stick of Truth was set for March 5, 2013 release but delayed to Fiscal 2014 (April 2013-March 2014).

There are also some titles expected for early 2013 release including Command & Conquer: Generals 2. GTA V also rumored for a March/April 2013 release. By the end of the year, Q1 will be looking much more competitive.

There were lots of big titles in Fall 2012 including Assassin's Creed III, Call of Duty 9, Halo 4 etc. But it seems like Q1 will not be easy as well for Tomb Raider to get a big attention!

That's pretty much what they said in the podcast. No matter when you release it, there will always be (other) big titles just around the corner.

I'd say the best day for TR to release is between 5th - 15th March.

I'd vote on May. I know it's not Q1 but seems the best month for me. Right now, Max Payne 3 seems the only AAA game released.

Was it just January and March which are considered Q1 for CD? They said in the podcast but I can't remember if they also said April.

The fall titles are more mainstream games than the ones coming out the beginning of 2013. The causal of the causals gamers knows Resident Evil, Call of Duty and Halo.

...CD will release their product when it's ready. Regardless of the competition, if they are confident in what they've created (which they seem) they will release whatever game is out there.
