This makes me so sad I really liked Alicia and I'm honestly terrified what a company like Netflix would do with the franchise.

I think it would have been a good boost for her she hasn't done a ton lately except the irma vep show which was honestly not good at all and I don't see many people caring to watch it cause it was so random and directionless.

I hope by some miracle they decide to cast her anyway, alot of people seem disappointed that she's not involved now on alot of message boards as someone mentioned. Even if people didn't enjoy the movie that much it seems 80 percent of folks did really like her as Lara.

I'd honestly prefer they just don't make another movie now maybe in 10 years when we are out of this PC era of mediocre television and films and good movies are made again.

I definitely don't see the film gestating anytime soon but also perhaps not the seven years of development that we waited for last time.

I think they'll wait for the next game to release and have Lara back in the consciousness first before making any major strides.

There is many factors at play the bidding war will probably take a while and when that is through considering the rights which MGM lost the next film may have to be required to be made within five years of the purchase which I believe was the deal with MGM and with the purchase from Lin Pictures and Warner Bros back in 2007 when the rights first went up again.

A lot of these modern franchise IP are timed deals which ensure things get made quickly. I don't think we will personally see the bidding war end until maybe late this year or early next but it could happen quickly if someone puts down a massive bid that they can't resist.

I'd still guess it'll all go quiet until 2026 at the very earliest in terms of progress or the film reaching the big screen (or small).

The rights issue speeds up the process. MGM had to pay the rights twice! And TR2018 was released on that date because they were almost done.

The new studio, whoever it is, will not have much time (more than 3 or 4 years)

That there are several bidders is good. It means that they will choose the best offer (more money and greater commitment to do something on a date)

Taken from Wikipedia:

Quote:
When producers option a script, they are purchasing the right to buy certain rights to intellectual property. A general option fee is 10% of the cost of the rights, should the producers manage to secure full financing for their project and have it "greenlit". Because few projects actually manage to be greenlit, options allow producers to reduce their loss in the event that a project fails to come to fruition. Should the project be greenlit, an option provides a legally binding guarantee to purchase the film rights.

The contract for an option will specify the length of time it is valid for. If the producer is unable to have their project greenlit within the specified timeframe (e.g. two years), the option will expire. The rights holder can then put the previously optioned rights up for sale again. Or, the contract may allow the producer to renew the option for a certain price.
Ofcourse we don't know the duration but in the past it seems the TR film rights have usually been between a 2-5 year duration (with renewals). Crystal are quite good in that aspect when getting the ball rolling.

Warner got the rights around 2007/2008 with Lin Pictures attached, they failed to greenlight in time and lost those rights again which lead to GK Films getting them in 2011, they then sold those to MGM in 2013 still excercising their ownership and it was officially greenlit in 2015. It was a long progress to the screen but those deals would've always sped things up.

Netflix adaptation will probably be about Clara Bell and her adventures with her non-binary friends.

No loss. Movie sucked anyway and the good bits were based on the Lara/Tomb Raider the movie wasn't meant to be adapting.

Like the new IP owners and the next game, I hope the next attempt is based on classic Tomb Raider and Lara, the icon the world actually knows.

Nothing of value would be lost if this movie never comes out in my opinion. The first one was a chore to go through.
