Speak on it, sis.

I really can't deal, either, with the horrendous renders that get posted here every so often, of that ****tier version of FMV Lara with "realistic" textures, as if those are going to save her from looking like the uncanny valley personified...

EDIT: I.E. the black version of Lara in the OP. Good grief.

I liked Lara's vague ethnic ambiguity in the early games that left it open to interpretation. We're assuming her parents are white, her Dad almost certainly was, but her Mom could really have been anything. It's not that uncommon for members of the British elite to marry elite people from other countries. Her mother could well have been some Spanish noblewoman or a South American businesswoman or something.

Also yes I hate that abomination from TR4/5 and the FMV models from the earlier games aren't much better. Sue me.

Reboot Amelia looks ethnically ambiguous in the same way that Classic Lara did, at least to me. Which makes sense, considering how much they seem to have in common as characters.

I like to think she's mixed-race, from somewhere along the French Riviera, personally - probably the heir of a wealthy business magnate...

That's noble and all. It's what Mother Theresa would do were she still alive and working as a tomb raider (bless her).
But what's much more badass though is travelling the world, raiding ancient tombs and temples, dodging traps, fighting off supernatural creatures, grabbing priceless artefacts and bringing them home to a fancy mansion and display them in its secret basement trasure room.

We see her parents in Chronicles and they're both white. Lara was never ethnically ambiguous to me. She is nearly always depicted as quite pale and white with Auburn ish hair. There is the odd render where she is quite brown but I always thought it was just a tan.

So, if this character is taking artefacts back to museums, where did she get them from in the first place?

You got it wrong Rai. She takes the artefacts from museums back to "where they belong".
The museums owners stole the artefact and Lara as a good samaritean returns those back to the rightful owners.
That is what I understood from the OP.

Well then Lance didn't correct me the first time I got it wrong.

It's not my fault. I'm sleep deprived

Sounds like a stupid and annoying character trait.

I’d hate it to be honest.
