Default Why so many crawlspaces?

I'm just at the end of Cairo (arguably the worst part of TR4) and the amount of tedious, slow, boring crawlspaces is really excessive. Particularly the ones where you hang and climb into, crawl forward by one block and have to slowly turn around and hang drop out of. They're just everywhere in this game, and it really hurts the pace. It might not have been so bad if TR4 had TR5's forward dive.

Does this bother anyone else? It's not just Cairo there are more than a tolerable amount, but still a heap more than the rest of the game, especially when Cairo's gameplay is so, so very monotonous and visually ugly.

I feel the same. It wouldn’t bother me as much if we had the crawlspace roll from Chronicles, but seeing as how that isn’t the case, the crawlspaces feel terribly tedious.

I will say this though, it fits for the environment, considering tombs and other ancient ruins wouldn’t just always have some big gateway into the main corridors.

I know, it's so irritating. There was also an instance of this in Alexandria, but nowhere near as frequent as Cairo. The TR5 crawlspace roll is a life improvement.

If there was ever a remake I actually wouldn't mind an Anniversary-style butchering of Cairo. TR4 is the only Core TR I've never liked. =/

The classic crawling system is indeed annoying , even in Chronicles with the forward dive . The animation itself is slow and ugly .

But Cairo is amazing imo . Can understand why people think it looked "ugly" but the thing is it doesn't have to look "pretty" , it's an old-fashioned Egyptian neighborhood at night time plagued by unorthodox atmosphere and weather pattern and invaded by mystical creatures who wreck havoc at the behest of a mad Egyptian god . IMO Core portrayed this place in those circumstances in a masterful way .

Anyway , it's nowhere as ugly as , say , the repugnant sewers , warehouses and abandoned apartment blocks that plagues 85% of AOD , for no logical reason .

What makes Cairo so amazing to you?

I find it aesthetically ugly because of the sickly green sky, dark lighting and dark buildings and materials.

I already explained my opinion on the aesthetic/atmosphere part in my previous post . As for gameplay/level design , I think that it's full of unique ideas that were never explored in the classic formula before : imprisoning a sub-boss in a mosque so that you can progress , getting rid of machine guns by blowing up a helicopter or by a clever crawl around , improving the motorcycle to cover larger gaps , manipulating thunder , using an Egyptian bull as a way to clear out blockage , and many many others , all incorporated within traditional interconnected level-design .

Forget the crawlspaces. Who's idea was it to make it so you had to hold down crawl in order to squeeze into a crawlspace from a ledge unlike the previous game.

Arrow Crawlspace roll and faster crawling animation....

A TR4 mod would be nice to implement the crawlspace roll and a more rapid crawling animation like the commando one in AOD
