Pretty much.

A small thing to notice, survival instincts no longer highlight craggy climbable walls in shadow even though the game is way too dark at some points.

Yes.

I don't use it. But I'm sure many people do. Why would I deny them such feature?

Its uses range from finding paths and solving puzzles to merely spotting items. Some people are playing for the adventure and the story.

It is a common feature these days, and we'll never know what would have happened if Survival Instincts was a thing in the 90s :/

Exactly, expecially now that puzzles and exploration are becoming the main focus again I don't see how SI would make te game more enjoyable.

The fun of these games is supposed to be the search for the solution or an hidden item on the map.
If a bright yellow light tells me where it is, then what's really the point of these games?

I would only allow it on the easiest difficulty, not from normal above...

I'm so "passionate" about SI because when Shadow came out two famous Italian you tubers criticized the game for many things (I completely disagree on everything they said) and one of their complaints was "why does she have this eagle eye?" making fun of SI while they were using it every two seconds...

I wish I could tell them that the problem was not the game, the problem was how they were playing it.
You can't enjoy this game if you don't want to use your brain.

You know, if you play just for the adventure and the story you're not forced to find every hidden collectible...
And if you can't solve a puzzle in a challenge tomb on your own, you can still continue on the main story if that's the only thing you play for...

That's how it was in the past, finding collectibles was difficult but you weren't forced to do so.

Not no longer; never. They were highlighted in Rise, but never in Shadow.

I don't mind using SI for collectibles because most of them are pointless busywork. Otherwise, no.

Also, it's really annoying when Let's Players spam the hell out of it.

YES YES YES YES.

it's not automatic. My eye sight is terrible and without survival instinct I'd have no interest to collect and play.

My first experience playing Tomb Raider or any 3-Dimensional game for that matter was with Dagger of Xian. I was really fascinated and frustrated with it as a young kid since TR was one of the pioneers in the genre. It took me almost a month to figure out how to get out of that first area where the chopper drops you off on the Great Wall beause I didn't have a friggin clue how to "ascend" to the top. Still, that ended up a more satisfying and rewarding experience to me than having the Survival Instincts mechanics forced on me on the first 2 of the Reboot so I'm grateful for the option allowed us in Shadow to turn it off almost completely, especially getting rid of all the white paint and getting Lara to shut up. Figuring things out by myself during traversal and puzzles without any obvious hints was one of the things I enjoyed about the originals and playing TR. It definitely made this game a lot more challenging.
