Various issues with TR2Main v0.9.0 (Jun 5 2023) and possible workaround
Hi, while reading through various threads I saw that some people were having issues with the newest versions of TR2Main... mainly the fmv playback at 4:3 aspect ratios.
Below are the issues I encountered, and a workaround to get most out of TR2Main while also having perfect 4:3 fmv video playback and antialiasing. Hope it can be useful to somebody. First of all, I need admin priviledges to start the game. Without I have to force close the app via task manager. Second, since I play in 2880x2160 on a 3840x2160 screen, whenever a fmv plays the screen flickers black and the fmv player repositions itself to the leftmost side of the screen, showing the desktop on its right side. When the fmv ends the screen flickers black again and re-centers itself normally. All this switching back and forth leads to several seconds of video signal lost. Third, but I've not investigated it since the above issues make the game unplayable for me, antialiasing forced by the nvidia control panel doesn't work. I got another version of TR2Main (TR2Main_developer_build_20200902) saved, and if i switch the new TR2Main.dll (617kb) with the old one (514kb) all the aforementioned issues are resolved. I even get to keep the new TR2 Gold loading pics, but of course the new controller compatibility layer doesn't work (use something like joytokey). |

Not sure if this may help (I haven't read what the changes are), but keep an eye on this:

Thanks, I didn't know of this fork.
But alas, the fmv player is still broken for 4:3 aspect ratios. Very weird, since it used to work so well in previous versions... The only thing I'm really missing from the most recent version is the pause menu (P key) xD |

These softwares sacrifice too much for controllers, which have no standards.

But how are the 2 related?? Seems like the butterfly effect: fixing something in spot "A" breaks something else in spot "Z" |

They may not be directly related, but I feel too much efforts have been put on modern controller support. It's a bad thing that anyone can join the team, so anyone can have an opinion.

I also save the game and the file is created but when I load the game, the game closes. Thank you very much. Last edited by antonio3287; 01-05-24 at 13:15. |

I am hoping TR2Main (and TR3) comes to receive the same love and regular updates as what TR1Main has been given. It works well what we have currently but it is so far behind what TR1Main has currently in terms of fixes and features.

These projects are dead I think, no more updates.
