I get that Core wanted to branch out from Tomb Raider. I get that they were a small company and didn't really have the resources to try something that deviated too much from what they and Eidos knew would sell well. And I know that by the time of AOD, they wanted to do literally anything besides working on Tomb Raider again.

But that's all the more reason that AOD should've strictly been a Lara-filled adventure. They tried to do too much at once with an entire second playable character who was supposed to have his own set of abilities and gameplay differences from Lara. Had they not had to develop the story around his inclusion, AOD could've been a lot more focused and possibly give more development back to Lara and the story itself.

But in the frame of "Do I think it was a bad idea altogether?", and to that I'd say no - Kurtis being the star of his own game could've been a very successful venture for Core. But I honestly believe it didn't have to entail his inclusion in AOD specifically.
I agree with all of this.

I think that one of the reasons Core had to end up sticking with Kurtis and not cutting him entirely as a playable character is because they had marketed him so much up until that point. It's another example of them promising too much in advance with AOD. Had he been kept entirely under wraps then it would have been safer for the game, and him as a character, to just scrap him completely and make his levels playable by Lara. But he had already been announced left and right.

Having said that, I still love his levels and love playing as Kurtis. But I understand that for the sake of the game and the stress everyone was under, it may have been better for them not to include him. I'm still happy though that we got what we did.

Hey everyone

quick observation: is it just an impression or Lara's run animation is different in the E3, beta version, and final version? I'm not even refering to the speed, which has been restored already. I mean the animation itself.

Has anyone else ever noticed that too?

Yup, it's about the arms.
E3 version has her arms parallel to each other all the time, they always stay on Lara's side.
Retail version has her arms "rolling around her", basically she has her fists going "in front" of her head instead... if that makes sense explained this way.

There's a remnant of this version of the animation: the run step up animations (when she climbs one small step, not talking about the stairs) still has her arms in the old position. It's easier seen when you extract the animations and watch them in software like 3DS Max.

AOD is a very old game so any laptop with a dedicated graphics card released in the last 8 years or so should be able to play it smoothly at the highest settings. If you want to play newer games as well I would recommend buying something newer and more powerful of course.

In the beta version (not talking about e3 videos), which animation is on in your opinion? the e3 or retail? I was trying to figure it out, but it seems like at that point they've already replaced the old one for the retail. It's a little hard to tell cause both of them are very similar to each other, but imo the old one looks a lot better.

Lara also has different hair physics in the E3 demo of AOD Anyway all of the 6 Core Design TR games are so much fun when we started to play them in the Dui 兑 ☱ (1984 - 2003) time era to begin with!!!
