I made my wife a new desk
All three of us now have a desk that I made. Linh had been using my old desk, which is pretty small, so I decided to make a bigger one. Since most of the furniture in our room is a reddish brown, I needed to find a wood that was naturally that color (I HATE staining wood). So this is only clear oil polyeurethane, otherwise this is the natural wood color. It looks different colors from different angles. For example, the ends of the cabinet, all of the vertical and horizontal pieces of wood came from the same piece, yet they look vastly different.
New techniques were the steep bevel on the ends ot the top, and tapered legs. The drawers are also solid soft maple instead of plywood. The drawer bottoms again are some laminate flooring because I didn't feel like questing for plywood. Measures 74" x 27" x ~31" and weighs almost 165 lbs. The wood is called Sapele, a harder, less expensive version of Honduran Mahogany. Last edited by Sgt BOMBULOUS; 04-08-24 at 03:56. |

I'm an interior designer, and I must say - this is beautiful. It is giving modernist 1970's realness. Nice work!
