Yeah I'd much rather see a smaller team with a real passion for the classics and that Lara take on the project than CD.

I don't think the remasters even need to be particularly high budget. Just refine the graphics in a more timeless stylised look (doesn't have to be realistic).

What I absolutely don't want to see is influence of LAU or especially the Reboot timeline on these remasters.

The chances are close to zero based on the following:

- Tomb Raider Anniversary. It sold very poorly. It didn't make an impression, and not even fans appreciated it back then. It doesn't get appreciated now either. A clear statement that more classic doesn't necessarily equal profit.

- The only times the games have been truly successful since Core left, is when they deviated from the classic formula.

- It was reported that only 1% of players use the classic skins in Shadow. Whether that is because it's jarring, or it's not polished enough or whatever other reason, it doesn't matter. They are there for a purpose and that is THE FANS. If we don't use them enough, there's no way they'll keep doing these gestures, specially if there's 0 gratitude from us. I personally use them from time to time because it's funny. Maybe people would use them more if they released a Reboot Lara skin with a braid and the classic outfit. But then again, I'm sure that would end up in a huge outrage from fans, calling out the devs for trying to pass Reboot Lara as Classic Lara in an attempt to erase her from existence or some stupid ****.

- Classic Tactical recolor was also met with heavy criticism when it was released (and yes, I remember how nasty some people were. I couldn't even believe it). It seems like people appreciate it a little bit more now and hopefully they are tracking how much it is used. I've seen a lot of fans wearing that outfit in screenshots.

- Shadow (a clear attempt of going classic) was met with very harsh criticisms by fans. Actually, I feel like the GP was way more positive about the game than actual fans. I understand that people were expecting some things and it has some shortcomings but it would've been nice to send the message that we are very appreciative of all the things they included. Hopefully with the way people have responded to the DLCs, they'll realize we want more classic stuff. But then again, that doesn't mean they'll make the effort of creating a whole remaster from scratch.

Would remasters make a ton of money? Unclear. Fans would probably buy it anyway but I'm pretty sure the GP would not be up for a "difficult" TR game with lots of silent gameplay, etc. Maybe if they go the "Lara Croft and..." style it could work, but then again, fans wouldn't call that a remake or a remaster if it's not almost exactly like the classics.

And let's be realistic here. Which studio wouldn't capitalize from something that you guys see soooooo clear as profitable? The answer is simple, they don't think it is. That's the only reason we don't have remasters by now: MONEY. There's no other conspiracy going on, believe me.

Hopefully, we will see them down the line. I'd personally love to play them.

I think the chances are pretty decent.

What are you talking about? Of course there's a conspiracy, you silly!

CD is ashamed of classic Lara, and they want to bury her deep, and they cut anything classic Lara, and classic games related, and they've just snatched TR12 from EMs hands to prevent it from having more classic elements (and let's forget the book, the 20 year anniversary stuff, the skins in the games, the statues, the board game that only has classic and LAU Lara, and so on, because it doesn't match this narrative - or it does, if I want to excuse it all as simply banking on it and nothing else!)

And to think that some people don't even view the above as silly sarcasm is appalling .

Right? :P

On-topic: I seriously don't know the chances. TBH, I think 50/50 right now. I think there's market for it, but at the same time I feel there isn't.

Why I feel there is:

- Mostly, nostalgia - I think they can bank on nostalgia, like many other companies are doing

Why I feel there isn't:

- Classic TR is pretty niche, it's not a popular type of game nowadays, especially with the horrid controls, and endless isolation and almost no action, and the annoying backtracking and so on.

So I honestly really don't know. It's a risk either way

I'd be fine with them just releasing an OpenTomb (or OpenLara, whatever it's called) kind of thing ,

http://xproger.info/projects/OpenLara/

with unlocked framerate, more control options, clean modern look... then add some options and release all 5 games 1 one package for consoles at discounted price.

You could say the exact same about Resident Evil, yet there's still a lot of love for their old styles. I'm pretty sure a remake like Crash/Spyro would be very well received by all fans.

I think if they were to sell a proper classic outfit skin for Reboot Lara and a tribal outfit. The classic would easily sell more. I don't think it's right to blame "classic" for bad sales when Anniversary for example, came down to the execution imo.

Well, put Reboot Lara in any clothes that are not tribal, and that would easily sell more too.

And I'm sorry but what happened to the execution? It was a very polished game with great gameplay and it was also quite faithful for the most part. Some parts were even an upgrade from the classic game. So what was the reason for the poor sales? That it was not a proper remaster? Ok, it was not. It was a clear attempt at going more classic though, and they tried to please those who hated how linear Legend was. And guess what? Nobody cared. It's also pretty easy to assume that the Reboot is a clear aftermath of Anniversary flopping, since we know the Reboot was already in development alongside Underworld.

So I still stand by my initial argument. Plus, every time they tried to go more classic they've met with nothing but disappointment, while also losing sales from the GP.

I do think the reception to the DLCs have been extraordinary, so I'm pretty sure we'll get puzzles and tombs like those in the next game. And that makes me so happy.

My thoughts exactly.

I think it could happen, and since some people are asking for or referencing classic Lara, it is a possibility they’ll do that because it’s what people want. Plus, I don’t think (and I certainly hope) the whole phase of Lara just being “boobs with guns” is over, so the devs could potentially be more okay with it. We’ll see.
