Lol but didn't Shelly said that she wasn't the one who voiced Lara's SFXs in TR1???
I swear she wrote something like this on Twitter

Btw I'm in love with the fact that she's friend of Jonell Elliot. I can imagine TR1 Lara & Laraod hanging out like bffs

I heard at some point that the level designer Heather Gibson did some sound effects for Lara, perhaps that was for TR1.

I think during gameplay it was when Lara jumped, grabbed an edge, breathed out the water and you use an incorrect item but they mainly used them during the FMV cutscenes.

Her voice wouldn’t suit young Lara unfortunately. Jonnell’s does

That's kinda sad. They could have just used two different voice actors. It turned out nice though, but that's probably just because we are so used to linking that specific TR game to a specific voice.

I never even realised how much they changed her voice when I was younger.

Yeah we're just so used to voice actors changing, really it should have been Shelley the whole series.

The French versions of the series from TR1 through to Underworld (and GoL/ToO) all use Françoise Cadol to voice Lara Croft. It must be nice to have a consistent voice for 18 years, particularly during the classics when Lara was actually aging.

While Shelley Blond was hired to do the majority of Lara's voice work, three additional employees contributed sounds. Global PR Manager Susie Hamilton contributed some grunts and groans, as did level designer Heather Gibson. Then, Martin Iverson added in his own vocals, with the voice adjusted to sound femine.
Taken from the 20th Anniversary Book from Meagan.

Young Lara was 16. Lots of 16 year olds have deep-ish voices. Women's voices change little to none between 16 and adulthood. So this couldn't have been the actual reason.

I wonder what it actually was. Either they wanted someone new/ fresh or maybe similar reasons why Shelley didn't continue. If I remember correctly from an interview, Judith only got paid $3000 to voice Lara (not sure if per game or combined), which is super low for VA standards of a popular game now.

ya have to understand the game wasn't popular just yet during the making of it...since no would knew how well it would do at the time plus it was the 90s as well and the studio may have been small and didnt have much money as ya would today in big gaming studios
