It appears that the PAL version of TR II uses level files that were exported earlier than the NTSC version, despite TR II being released in European regions about three weeks after America.

I've found that after doing hex comparisons on ten files in a row, including cutscenes, they all have many many differences, except for the TOMBPSX.DAT script file, which is identical in both regions. I do not know what the changes between the level files do. It would be safest to assume that the NTSC level files are the most final versions, despite the aforementioned missing barefoot SFX in the Maria Doria levels, which was probably an oversight after fixing a different bug. You'll notice that the NTSC level files were compiled, mostly in gameplay order, within minutes of each other, while the PAL version has files compiled with gaps sometimes as large as two weeks. This indicates to me that the PAL master was compiled with "just give us what you've got right now"-style rush (probably due to extra licensing/pressing work for releasing in European regions) while the NTSC version had an extra week for some finishing touches.

Now I just need to figure out how to bring the SFX back...

EDIT: I've been playing NTSC v1.0 and all the wetsuit levels have the regular boots SFX, instead of the footsteps sound being outright absent, which is what I thought was the issue. Also, I've come across a puzzle in Living Quarters where there is supposed to be two boxes on either side of a shortcut-pit, but in this version, it's only one box (look at HALLWAY WITH MOVABLE BLOCKS). I don't think this is a bug so much as it is just a modification to the level.

I maintain some private spreadsheets that cover all the differences between PS1 releases (all of them that were released around the world ) that I was able to confirm but I'd rather not share them publicly. You can PM me for further details.

Yeah, I could copy and paste all the stuff but I'm not in the mood to double the work I have and I believe OP can do this in his/her own thread.

But hey, there was some stuff I wasn't aware of. I added this to my private notes and will check once I have some free time.

Some of my private details are there. Like my real name. After all this is a Google Docs spreadsheet which I may update sooner or later, not a regular ODT/XLSX file.

Of course I'll allow you to copy everything and publish your own one because why not.

Whether this is useful for you or not.

EDIT I just remember

The Japanese version of Living Quarters is missing a movable block

The English version of Cistern level missing secrete room ( Sega Saturn)

The Handstand is missing in all region on Sega Saturn and European version has the unfinished level more like a beta stage on the first level. NTSC is more complete in the first level.

I think all versions of TR1 for Saturn have missed that extra secret regarding the Cistern

Only PAL (European) Tomb Raider 1 Sega Saturn. NTSC (US) Tomb Raider Sega Saturn does have a secret in Cistern level. I have made a video about this back in 2011

Sorry for bumping this thread. I know about a couple of geometry changes and some bugs fixed in TR3 between the different NTSC versions, most notable are some fixes in Madubu Gorge.

There are barefoot effects only in Tomb Raider II PAL version. Isn't an issue.

I'm sorry, but I didn't see any issue at PlayStation version.
Tomb Raider 2 wetsuit barefoot effect (only PAL regions)
Tomb Raider 3 uses Save Game crystals, no way to change it (I prefer)
All Tomb Raider and games named "Greatest Hits" includes demos.
Tomb Raider runs slowly, cause PAL versions games runs at 50 FPS. (The European games were projected this way)
Tomb Raider The Last Revelation (no issues)
Tomb Raider Chronicles (no issues)

Have these been documented anywhere?
