What do you use to open/edit pcx files?
I need a proper title screen for my level...

Had the same problem. I think it's because of the script in the tomppc.dat . You use for your level the Wall file. Try to edit the script of the level Wall, so that the game doesn't want to play the cutscene after finishing the level and starts to rotate the camera.

Aha... so I can't do anything about it, I'm fixing other builders' packs
If they used a default script I shouldn't really replace that with another

For changing the title screen i use a program called Tomb Raider Image Converter. You convert the .pcx to a .bmp using the instructions included, then edit that bmp. And then you convert the .bmp back to .pcx.
The author says not to use programs like Photoshop to edit the .pcx files because it can screw them.

On some texture packs I downloaded for original levels there is the magenta
area missing and instead it's a black one. This way I can't do a portal view . How can this be fixed?

As you said, instead of black color it needs to be magenta to make transparencies.

a little update on the sound engine:
the files winplay, dec130, edec, winstr and winsdec.dll appear needed in about 5-10% of cases.
It's very rare so I didn't realize - but just in case include them as well, everytime.
