This is why his worriness is unecessary because there is absolutely no problem into using this. It's just a matter of getting informed about the patch and all of this could be avoided.

I'm sure the administrators of this website would not allow a patcher that garantees an illegal copy of Tomb Raider.
I will stop here, no more drama, please.
Not at any point does the installer ask for the CD to install the game and therefore DOES guarantee an illegal copy.

While it was true in the past, the check was removed in the newest versions.

I believe gidierre's intention here is to help people play the original Tomb Raider, not promote piracy. I've contacted him for further details on how we can avoid the latter.

I thought that was the intention but including a full TR1 game in there with no verification of a legit TR1 game was a little shady. Thanks for looking into it.

Just out of curiostiy: Do you have any TR1 installation on your computer? Like a GOG / Steam installation?

Because the changelog says this:
Quote:
o Fix for compatibility with all the latest editions and repackaging redistributions of the Tomb Raider 1 cdrom available on the market, such as Superbundle, Gog and Steam packages: all these would go otherwise unrecognized thus causing prior installer versions to crash [v. 1.7]
So I assume the installer doesn't prompt for a CD if it detects a valid GOG / Steam installation (since they don't use CDs). Maybe that's why you didn't get a prompt?

I have the GOG version on my main PC but I did try it on my laptop (which doesn't have any games installed) once and it still didn't prompt for a CD or anything.

Sorry for double post.

I would like to sincerely apologise for my earlier claims. After thorougly reading through this thread, it seems that some check obviously takes place considering the no-CD patch that existed before did just that. I guess the check is extremely subtle to the point where it is not noticed.

Again, my sincere apologies for this.
