I hate keyboard control, which it sounds like you were doing too. I find it frustrating and distracting trying to use a keyboard when compared to playing it with a controller. That certainly can't have helped in forming your original impression of the game.

With a controller you never need to take your eyes off the screen. Use a good old PS1/PS2 or XB360 controller for Windows and it plays practically the same as it did on PS1/PS2.

There are bits of TR4 I do not like but my rating of it has steadily increased every time I've played since my first PS1 run through sometime circa 2000.
Yes, quite the irony seeing how I did not enjoy it at first, especially with all the bugs I encountered! I don’t know if you read any of them tho lol
I played with a controller the entire time.
I used the steam version with Troye‘s TR4 patch on a windows 10 machine.

I actually love it. I’d say it’s easily the best classic TR!

This. The idea of tr4 being buggy...it's just not a thing. Very strange to see, as it's new! One must always ensure they upgrade their games, even core design did patch updates in 1999 themselves. Then ofcourse the community XP+ loading muktipatches etc.

Question, what's the latest updated version. I know there's tomb4 project but I am asking about the original .exe with all patches and updates.

There's your fixes, then there's holster bug fix and I think grenades not damaging Lara. I tried the version that came with strap mod:

I also have dgVoodoo2 because without it game just outright bugged out on Win10. There are issues with running it on modern systems.

Lies. I never experienced any issues with TR IV.

I wrote a lengthy thread for this question.

Note: It's not that simple that only the exe has been upgraded, but also the level files.

Does this mean we're getting TR4 1.5 at some point?

I am a die-hard TR4 fan and will always love it the most, no matter what.

But I can step outside of myself enough to know that this is a limited personal bias because 1) it was my first TR and 2) I love Egypt. If I had to be completely objective, I think TR2 is actually the better game when it comes to gameplay, puzzles, and combat. Some of the TR4 level design is terrible if you take each level by itself (rather than a HUB or location as a whole). I mean, one level is literally you just finding two pieces of a shovel on either side of the map and digging a hole. It's concealed by the fact that we are at the Sphinx of Giza, a world-famous-landmark, but if you break it down to its bare essentials it's really just about the shovel.

I can understand why people don't love TR4. I don't understand why people might hate TR4 though. But all in all, I will acquiesce that it's not the best game objectively even if it is the best for me, and my favorite.
