No problem. Perhaps you could develop a tool for replacing the sounds in TRs 1-5? It'd be really useful for TRLE.

This is the tool I use: http://nonametr.110mb.com/msfx.zip It works with TR2 and 3. Don't know of any tool for other TRs, sorry, and I don't know how to program.

Anyway, does anyone know of any games that have any sound effects from TR2 (beside other Tomb Raider games)? I'm sure there must be some.

Ah. I've just remembered the sound effects used in the TR3 cutscenes (NOT TR3 itself) are high-quality versions of TR2 sounds. So you can get a clean pistol sound and some Lara grunts from there.

Well, naturally - There are only two sounds that I've managed to rip from cutscene audio so far - the pistol sound and "Aha." The latter sounds fine, but there's a slight humming audible in the background of the pistol sound.

actually, as fas TR2 and TR3 sounds go,
by glancing at msfx.zip contents posted by noname
honestly I had never heard about this utility, but apparently you can already do this (replacing TR2/3 sounds from main.sfx) through it.

Although Pascal's not my cup of tea (admittedly I'm so much better off with C/C++)
browsing msfx.dpr which is the turbo pascal source for msfx.exe

the -b or -B (case insensitive) switch in it, or running build.bat,
makes msfx.exe inject .wav files (according to one main.txt it creates when extracting *.wav files from main.sfx) back to main.sfx

btw
I guess there's a typo/error in there in the second occurence of line:

anyway,
if as it seems it really checks nothing but a correspondence to main.txt (including of course wav filesize)
it could well serve as a replacer as long as filesize and coherence with main.txt are maintained.

Ya, it was made by a guy named Turbo Pascal, who also made the dxtre3d level editor.

Hey, cool idea. I've modified the sounds too and replaced sounds from TR2 with sounds from TR3, including alot of sounds and the very annoying rolling sound that always sounds like Lara's rolling on woods even though she's on stone or something. Here's the download link:

EDITED POST: The MAIN.SFX is updated ALOT, and almost all important sounds are replaced with either TR3/4 ones or custom made ones. Download it and hear the cool new footstep, gun, glass breaking and many more-sounds in your TR2 game
