Default 2020 Replay of this game and...

...this game holds up surprisingly well.

That being said, I played the Definitive Edition on PS4.
I ignored nearly every collectable unless I ran right on top of them.
The only thing I searched for map-wise were Tombs and current objectives (I avoided using Survival Instinct like the plague).
I also skipped most of the cutscenes.

Weirdly enough, skipping the cutscenes made the pacing of the game much smoother, leaving me to "figure out the plot" using just the documents and artifacts I come across and talking to people outside of cutscenes.

I played using the Aviatrix outfit.

It's an okay game, but tries too hard to be Far Cry: Tomb Raider edition.

The writing up until the last couple cutscenes definitely felt like every character except Lara would die at the end, leaving her the so-called "survivor". Diminishing Sam's importance post-game to comics (and exceedingly rare documents in Rise -- does she even show up in Shadow? I don't remember) just seems to disrespect her character somehow and Lara's too considering everything she did for her.

Not upset this time about only using dual pistols at the very end. She's her own character and having two pistols for her using this style of gameplay would feel somewhat clunky.

3.5/5, but probably won't replay this one for a while yet.

Soundtrack was okay, but there were only a few that pop at me: the main theme, the island's theme (or at least those on it) and the cue that plays when she's climbing the radio tower.

why are you trying to rate a game/give your opinion if you're skipping the cutscenes??

They globally already knows the story, though. Zreen001 even mentioned it as a new way to engage, "figure out the plot". So they are in the right capacity to rate the game a new time.

Frankly, skipping as much of the story as possible is probably going to lead to a better overall impression .

Whenever I replay a game with a linear story that I've played several times before, I skip the cutscenes so that I can get faster into the action again. IMO if a game stops being interesting if you skip the cutscenes, then it's probably a bad game and replaying a game this way shows which games have good gameplay and which don't.

I replayed the reboot again a few weeks ago. It aged much better than I remembered and I prefer it loads more to Rise which largely makes me feel like it's a hollower yet more polished version. I was really enjoying it - I was going for 100% too. I got to the beach hub and was about to go back up to the monastery .. then the game crashed, my save corrupted and I lost everything. Apparently it's a common issue on PS4 due to the way it saves which they never fixed.

There’s a common glitch that happens on the PS4 were when Lara jumps into the helicopter with Roth the game crashes and force stops the game. Normally you can just reload it and carry on playing but last time I went back and played it getting 100% as I went along it corrupted my save file. I’ve never been so angry with Tomb Raider before lol.

Quite right. Knowing the story already definitely helps, though I did try to "forget" as much as possible for a cleaner experience. I should also repeat that I skipped "most" cutscenes. Not all. There's a couple I do find pretty interesting (and then there's some that are unskippable because it's backdrop for loading in the next level or there's an immediate gameplay section right after)

Haha, that's what I thought too.

Gameplay was fairly solid. Not a big fan of collectathons which is why I ignored most of the other stuff on the map unless I ran right on top of them (except for Tombs, I actively searched those but really I just ran across them accidentally for the most part and had to only search for one of them just before the point of no return)

I'm so sorry you had to go through all that.
That would've definitely soured the experience.

I have been thinking of replaying it but then I remember how dark it is in both senses of the word, na mean? The gamepaly is fun but the dark atmosphere and visuals and the deathporn and the collectibles on every step, no thanks.
