While poorly executed with so many missed opportunities, there are a lot of ideas behind the 2013 game that I do like as an origins story. So while it might not have been the most "Tomb Raider-y" game, I can see the direction they were going for and can enjoy it. I could have probably loved it had they not made it quite so far-removed from older versions of Lara and TR, but unfortunately it was too different. I look at it in a similar way to how I view AoD; good ideas, horrible execution.

Rise, on the other hand... bye. It was no more Tomb Raider-y to me honestly (a couple more tombs but still most were optional). The character was no more recogniseable as Lara than the 2013 one was, and it looked like she wasn't growing any more, in fact she bored and irritated me with how she spoke and just her overall persona. The story was even more trite than 2013. I was worn out by that point.

The exclusivity deal did leave a bitter taste in my mouth too, although I don't let that affect my judgment of the game itself.
Was going to post my own reply but then I stumbled across Yeauxleaux’s post. What more can I add?

Completely, totally, 100% agree with this. That’s exactly how I felt too.

Cool! I'll be living in Sheffield starting September, so we can schedule a "Reboot Lara is worthy of the 'Lara Croft's name" brawl at any time

Joking of courses

Oooh, that could potentially get... exciting, very quickly

Reboot Lara might grow into the title yet. That remains to be seen haha

It's a matter of patience. I think the reboot backlash could be attributed to the devs blue balling us. I can only hear "becoming who she's meant to be" so many times

I think it would clear things up if they told us that this is a different Lara, don't expect her to morph into her older self.
