I'm genuinely psyched to play RE4 on my Switch. I've been waiting for that game to go portable since the 3DS came out and it ran Revelaitons and Mercenaries so well.

Sorry if it's a silly question (I'm still new to this series): how does the virus spread?
By infected virus biting healthy people? Because I found that videotape after which Leon realize that mice spread the virus so I'm a bit confused. So the fact that you can be bited and not get infected is just for gameplay purpose? |

The only way to repel getting infected by wounds is to use special medicinal herbs that grow only in the Raccoon City mountain area.
The virus in Raccoon City was spread by the mice, the mice drank G-virus samples left by Umbrella Operatives William Birkin himself had killed. Then people got infected by the mice, Zombies started infecting the population with bites, scratches, throwing up etc. Maybe the population at Raccoon City had no Knowledge of the medicinal properties of the Herb. I'm pretty sure all of the zombies and BOWs in Raccoon City were infected by the T-Virus, not G. Birkin was carrying a case full of T and G viruses when Hunk's team attacked him. The rats consumed the T virus and spread it via water supply (?). One can be infected by T virus if bitten by a BOW like a zombie or dog.
In the actual canon, Leon and Claire were not bitten by any BOW. Hence why they never turned into a zombie. The T virus can only be cured with a special vaccine like the vaccine Carlos gets from the Raccoon Hospital or Daylight from RE Outbreak. I dont believe Herbs or FAS can actually cure an individual of the T virus. I'm not as sharp on the RE lore like I use to be, so correct me if I'm wrong. |

It's by bite, and I assume that canonically Leon, Claire and anyone else dealing with the T-Virus just never get bitten so they avoid ever contracting the virus.

Also trfan16 is right, the rats spread the T virus in the city. They infected the city's water supply, which is why Raccoon City went to hell so fast. If Birkin hadn't infected himself with G, I doubt RC would have been destroyed. It would probably still have a zombie outbreak eventually but maybe it would have been possible to contain it if they acted fast enough. |

^ It's very possible but I think even those were attacks they managed to escape. Birkin's pipe would definitely break a few bones and cause massive internal bleeding and other fatal injuries if left untreated. I was trying to think what other small and non fatal attacks the characters would survive but I honestly couldn't think of a single one other than Mr.X shoving you backwards. It would hurt like hell, but it would be perfectly possible to walk away from it IRL I think. I guess the G embryos poisoning is also possible if their vomit (?) doesn't have gastric acid in it.
