Default Jeremy Kyle show off air indefinitely

I saw it on Sky News a few minutes ago that the Jeremy Kyle show has been taken off air indefinitely following the death of someone who's episode had been due to air today, the guest died a week after they had recorded their episode.

While it's obviously not a good thing that someone has died, unless that person died on set or backstage the show shouldn't have been stopped from airing indefinitely.

The decision to take the show off air is a bit hasty in my opinion, I don't recall Love Island being taken off air after whoever it was that was associated with that show died if Love Island was taken off air I'm open to correction, maybe someone at ITV had a vendetta/agenda against Jeremy Kyle and his show and is using the death of this person as an excuse to take the show off air indefinitely.

In the show's 14 year history I would imagine that some of the previous guests have died at some point, why would someone dying now result in the show being taken off air, until we know more about how that person died be it by suicide or dying after being attacked by someone we can only speculate as to how that person died and why the Jeremy Kyle show has been taken off air as a result.

It's been implied the person who died committed suicide as a result of the events on the show which has throw the after care policy of the show into doubt.

The show has always been over the top in baiting people for attention and people often get very upset in the name of entertainment value. But in an age where so much light is being shed on mental health awareness I think it's distasteful to take advantage of people and their emotions without ensuring a duty of care. Its most likely been suspended to investigate how much the show impacted his actions and said policies.

It's not before time imo the show has long outlived it's entertainment value.

It was on Sky News just now that The Jeremy Kyle show has been permanently cancelled.

I read some of what went on, on the show in one of this morning's newspapers, participants were given a script by the producers of things they were to say and do and given an hour to learn it, other participants who turned up smartly dressed were told to change into a cheap looking tracksuit and told to shout louder than Jeremy.

The producers would continually harass potential participants over the phone or via Facebook until they agreed to take part and if they didn't want to do something that the producers wanted them to do, the producers would threaten to abandon them in Manchester and not pay for them to get back home.

The show is nothing more than a modern day colosseum pitting people against each other.

Good the show was like watching a bunch of animals behaving in a zoo. That's not how you deal with life issues.

I'm amazed it took this long for someone who went on to be embarrassed enough to kill themselves tbh. I'm not even being nasty saying that, I'm just speaking objectively.

I don't necessarily blame Jeremy or the show, at the end of the day nobody held that man at gun point and forced him to go on, and it was his decision alone to take his life.

I do think the show has always been in poor taste. I get that Jeremy in many cases isn't necessarily doing a bad thing, he's helping people get clarity about family situations and often giving people a wake-up call about their bad habits. However I never saw a need for this to happen on national television for millions of people to see. These people need private counselling with professionals who work in that field, and maybe legal help in some cases, they don't need to be paraded around on TV for shock value as if to say "look at these scummy chavs". I don't care what anyone says, that's always what the lure of the show was, what it was about, for people to tune in and find some sick entertainment in how messed up some people are through poverty.

That said, again I don't think we're living in a country where poorer people have absolutely no agency or opportunities to move upward, even the poorest people, even in the financially unstable times we're living in now. We're not a backward third world country where human rights are generally not respected. While I don't like how they've been paraded and exploited on TV, I do sometimes have to wonder if some of these people don't know better. You're not 10, you're aware how babies are produced, and I'm sure you can also tell red flags in relationships when you see them, so why are you still (after 2-3 generations of people doing this commonly) getting into these messy dysfunctional situations? I'm not exactly from the most privileged background myself, it doesn't matter, my parents told me on no uncertain terms that producing a baby out of wedlock as a young person was a death sentence.

This show has been exploiting the vulnerable for years and deserves to be shut down, in my opinion. Those responsible for allowing this to happen should be held accountable.

RIP to Steven Dymond and I hope those affected by the show's closure will find jobs.

I agree but then two contestants from the show Love Island have committed suicide after being on the show and people still canít wait for its return... itís absurd.

Can anyone really be held accountable if someone commits suicide? I very much doubt they coerced him into committing suicide that would have been a decision that he made himself, the only way that someone could be held accountable for his committing suicide would be if they had given him whatever he needed to commit suicide like pills, a noose or a loaded gun.

No one would willingly choose to help someone commit suicide unless of course it was someone who was terminally ill and wanted to die at a dignitas facility but that's a discussion for a separate thread, in any other situation someone would try and help someone who was thinking of committing suicide.

That is nothing new, I guess.
In hungary we had two show like this:
Monika show (a female's name)
Balazs (a man's name)

Both of them were pretty open about their stuff, also it was very well known, they paid a few bucks to random people on the street to act like an animal.
There are a lot of people whose life got destroyed because of these shows.
Or they just became murderers and thieves. (I'm not joking, mind you...)

As for Jeremy Kyle show, I've just red an article, the guest who committed suicide, he did it -supposedly- because he failed at the lying test. If that's true, I can't really feel sorry for him ; still someone lost a family member.
However that does not change the responsibility of the producers...but cancel it permanently, I think it's unnecessary. Stuff like this generates a lot of views for the channel... so they a) going to continue it, when the storm is over; or b) going restart it with a fresh look, new name etc.
