Even in a still frame it looks awful due to it just being a thick braid stuck to Lara's loose hair before the bun; it would have at least needed tighter pulled hair like TR2.
Somebody's a real hater of the braid mod i see Well i'm not really happy with the result too but at that time at least we had tried and understood that without animation braid would look unnatural and ugly unfortunately. For the animated braid i don't think the TR1 engine could support that. But i do have hope for OpenLara engine.

I guess we're going to forget that Opentomb exists?

Such levels probably wouldn't run on a PS1.

If progress continues to be slow on it, then eventually we might.

The technical limitations are the same for every iteration of the classic Tomb Raider series. Though as other people have said above, throughout the development of the series the Core Design staff became better experienced and found ways to optimise the game to run on PlayStation by discovering new methods and workarounds. And with a growing team they became more efficient at doing so, and they had more time to discover just how far they could push the PlayStation. The braid was removed from TR1 since the developers had not quite figured out how to make a good looking and well functioning braid yet.

I meant that if the engine was modified again for TR4 to support that again. But then again I didn't assume the changes in TR2 could have been made for PSX version only.

It’s very possible that meta2tr levels could work on PlayStation. Though due to memory limits the PS1 probably can’t handle too much of it though. Golden Mask and Unfinished Business won’t even work on a PS1 as they are and their levels aren’t too complex.

Don't be too sure about that.
