Rise of the Tomb Raider General Chat

Just finished Rise here. A lot of mixed feelings.

+beautiful graphics
+mix of different cultures and the Mongols was interesting
+dramatic scenes where everything is collapsing (love it)

- akward animations
- toe-curling cringeworthiness in the dialogues
- tropiest trope story
- pointless collectibles & my OCD => gaming becomes a chore, not fun

So overall, I think TR2013 was way better. I enjoyed that one much more. This one was just OK. I'd give it a 7/10.

Then don't 100% it? I only did it once and it was quite fun this isn't Witcher 3 you know.

That’s what keeps bringing me back 😂 I enjoy doing the side missions, what I don’t like is trying to find the last document out of 26 🙈

It's always annoyed me how highly the PC version of Rise is praised. I've never known a game to be so inconsistent with how demanding it is. I find that with most games once you've managed to find the sweetspot with the graphical settings you should be fine for the rest of the game. However, with Rise various areas are randomly much more taxing than others. The Geothermal valley alone sees a 20fps drop from the areas prior to it. It just seems like poor optimisation to me.

I've had incredibly long loading times on it (Seriously ARMA 3 runs better for me) and I've had ALOT of issues with the climbing system, I've randomly detached from axe walls and I even once used the grapple and Lara teleported in the middle of the platform, except she was UNDER the middle of the platform, yet people say AOD is a buggy unplayable mess. (Or maybe the PS2 version is actually that buggy unlike the PC version)

I also had Lara get stuck in the campfire animation with her hands til' I restarted once.
