Default Your ideal Angel of Darkness sequel!

Let’s imagine we’re in 2003. The game was a hit (no bugs, polished graphics, critically/financially successful) and a sequel was announced to it. It *may* be released around 2004-2006. What would you want to stay, what would you want to be polished, what would you want to be removed/added? Literally the game you imagine to be AoD’s sequel... ^.^

Things that should...

...stay:

Lara’s personality
Urban environments
Hub system
Black top - camo short/pant combination

...be polished:
Animations ()
Lara’s face
Money system
Medicine system
NPC model details

...be removed:
Strength upgrades (Lara’s at her best by the end of AoD)
Branching dialogue system
Kurtis ()
Horror elements/gory stuff

...be added:
I don’t have a lot of stuff for this but
adding Xbox OG-360 support could be appreciated...
And a cameo of the classic outfit ()

Things I strongly agree here, remove Kurtis.
Things I strongly disagree here, remove horror elements/gory stuff.
Everything else is agreeable.

Things I'd add:
Croft Manor just for fun. At least as a generic tutorial area.
Dual pistols

Hey,

I just have the feeling that a sequel wouldn't have the same magic. I read countless sequel material, and it all felt a bit of a repeat of AOD. (Another cabal, another Sleeper etc) But I will create a list anyway.

But if it was a perfect it:

...Keep:
Keep Kurtis but change everything about him.
Branching dialogs stay, but there are more interesting choices

..be polished:
Polish the existing stories a lot more. [Especially, alchemy and the Nephilim]
Polish the Backstories. [Lux Veritatis etc]
Urban Environments -I read something about the story being set in French countryside. That might work as an interesting Hub. But unless the hub itself is historical there is no point.

...added
Assassins Creed system for the Cabal secret society [Each main member has other minor members]
Each main member is controlling a different hub. (5 hubs in total)
They are all trying to revive a Sleeper. [Or creating their own proto]
There is one LV member (ally) in every hub.
Each main hub has 3 components: Urban - Restricted - Underground
Additionally:
1- One hub is about the fugitive storyline to tie that up.
2- The second one is about Egypt to clear up the Putai and the Last Revelation storyline.
3- Nephilim Hub
4- LV Hub
5- Cabal Hub
Introduce one of the fallen angel that fathered the Nephilim.

...removed
Lara getting tired.

if AOD was a perfect hit than:

...Keep:
  • The story
  • Easter eggs (Pizza Andrea in the sewer)
  • References to real locations, artwork, knights templar

..be polished:
  • Lara's movements. I want Lara to do a jump backward and turn around like in TR II till V, more acrobatic movements.
  • Kurtis movements and his abilities
  • Combat system with enemies
  • Graphics in high resolution
  • The conversation system, it is a cool feature to make things clear but if you played for the 5th time it is getting boring. Just a key to skip it.

...added
  • A secret system like in TR2 with stone, silver and golden Nephilim. That adds more health / more ammo / early access to new guns
  • If you have all the secrets in one game you unlock more information about the development of Tomb Raider.
  • Game type: Soft, normal, hard mode
  • Replay option.
  • Exploring area's with the thought of TR1, seeing for a while no humans.
  • Eckhard / Karel as playable object, just like Kurtis in AOD.
  • More objects that can be climbed one in urban area's.
  • A level editor !

...removed
  • The stealth mode of Lara/Kurtis. It is a cool thing but it doesn't fit tomb raider in my opinion.
  • The money system
  • The doors that cannot be opened.
  • The "old" feature where an enemy removes her guns

Ideally AoD would have just been a stand-alone story and not engaged in any pretentious pre-planned trilogies, so a sequel being TR7 would just be it's own game with it's own beginning, middle and end.

What was unpolished about the animations? They're most realistic ingame movement animations I've seen in my gaming life. Unless you mean controls, but that's completely different...

Imo, the controls were OK, but the animations were slow, and some lacked transitions. Adding transitions and speeding-up/altering some animations would be called ‘polishing’ imho........

Things I can remember right now that needs polishing: Lara’s running, sprinting, handstand, swan dive, crawl-space flip-out, wielding duals, the variation of swim animation, the variation of the climb-up animation (as seen in Industrial Rooftops, in the abandoned ware-house with the medipack) ^.^

you're allowed to dislike them but - having had to export and go through all of them - i can assure you aod's animations are meticulous to say the least.
there's transition animations for pratically everything and most of them mix and match incredibly fluidly. not to mention they manage to give lara some realistic weight.
as _seth has said, it's more likely that your issue lies with the controls.

Stay:
  • Lara's design and personality (not necessarily the outfit, it can be more colorful and classic).
  • Urban scenarios, but they need to be toned down.
  • Horror elements.
  • Kurtis (also toned down).

Improved:
  • Controls. They should be analogic and precise, more reactive. Manual aiming is a must for me. Also stealth should be better.
  • Money system: urban scenarios should have weapon stores where you can buy special weapons. Secret items would be sold to museums.
  • Level variety. We say the reboot games are colorless and monotone, but AoD doesn't have too much variety either. I like it, but this should be addresed.
  • Better level design. It is also quite linear and easy, it should be more like TR2.

Added:
  • Secret system (to be used with the money system)
  • Light moments to spice it up a bit. AoD was a bit too serious, despite Lara being a savage, I want to give her a bit of a rest sometimes
  • Lara's home

Eliminated:
  • RPG elements

That's all I can think of.

My ideal sequel would have more Kurtis cutscenes and playable sections! It would be so cool to have him around helping Lara to solve puzzles!!

Lara's handstand was too slow, was it? If you want fast, take a look at how ugly and ungraceful the LAU handstand was. And the crawl-space flip and dive were too slow? Fair enough, but those are some strange complaints.
