Noticed that Porting Kit now supports modern MacOS, which is great news. I was able to successfully install and play Tomb Raider 2, 3, and 5 using the GOG.com installers, but 4, despite installing fine, doesn't start. Is this particular game just not supported yet? I couldn't find anything in the install FAQ one way or the other.
Has anyone else had any luck installing 4 on Ventura, for example? Last edited by Mr. Mr.; 02-08-23 at 19:33. |

This is pretty awesome news! I've a few MAC user friends who may be intrigued, thanks!
Re TR4. I'm not familiar with MAC at all, truly, but I can imagine it's method to run the games is similar to windows. You may need to create a setup shortcut (make a shortcut of tomb4 exe- edit it's properties - at the end of the target box after the final ", add a space and type setup. Apply changes. This should *hopefully* load TR4s setup window. You usually have to do this for any fresh classic tr installation, atleast just the once the first time you ever run one, often the game will crash on load attempt If you don't. You may have just missed this step - setting your resolution etc.. Fingers crossed you get it going! ![]() Last edited by mizuno_suisei; 03-08-23 at 03:14. |

Here are the installation instructions for TR4:
I followed these to the T. When I went to click Play, nothing happens. Nothing appears in the dock, not even for a millisecond indicating a crash of some sort. It's very strange, especially since 5 is built on the same engine and that plays fine. On a side note: I remember 4 had some problems with Porting Kit back before support for it was dropped on modern OSs- it had REALLY bright shading, to the point of pretty much ruining the dark mood the game was going for: https://bugs.winehq.org/attachment.cgi?id=41060 Last edited by Mr. Mr.; 03-08-23 at 12:49. |

Oh wow! That's quite comprehensive! Still - I wouldn't be entirely sure - basing off how the games are run on Windows.
When you successfully got TR2 3 ans 5 going, were you given the exes setup window for res etc on first launch? You didn't confirm if this happened. It is pretty necessary. Also - you mention tr4 and tr5 being the same engine. True to a degree! They are completely unique though - and have their own unique registry keys for resolution and game settings. |

If it can be done - making a setup shortcut for tomb4 may kick the game into booting

I tried making a shortcut of tomb4.exe and using the Wineskin app to open it- that failed as well.
I'm starting to think this game isn't supported yet. I've sent a bug report; hopefully it will be fixed in an update. |

Jealous that you got TR3 going. I tried EVERYTHING and my M1 Mac mini was like eh how about no.

Good news: TR4 is now compatible with the latest Porting Kit! And it has the correct color palette finally too.
