All digital tr releases have been patched to run on modern OS'. You may need DS4windows to trick your ps4 controller into being compatible for the classic tr input methods.

AntiMicro is another alternative to use PS and Xbox controllers for Tomb Raider.

I use JoyToKey for my PS4 controller, never had any problems.

What you do have to watch on win10 and win11 is directx.

I bought a win10 computer with 22" screen recently as my win7 computer blew up (power pack had smoke coming out of it LOL). Got my moneys worth out of it over the years so cannot complain.

I found when I tried to play Tomb raider games like the TR4 game or TR4 custom games, it came up with a small window saying 'failed to setup directX'

After a search on this forum, the answer was to select a lower resolution on game setup, to get it to work.

So now after buying a big 22" screen with 1920x1080 resolution, I can only play TR4 games at a lower resolution of 1250x833 to initialise directX....

It seems this is down to the graphic card on your computer allowing only a certain size of resolution to get it to work.

^ It's not a graphic card issue, nor a system issue or anything, it's a software limitationof the game:
The game uses an old version of DirectX which does not support resolutions higher than 2048x1536px, so even if the game lists the resolution it will fail.

The common workaround if you want to use a high resolution anyway, is to use dgVodoo2 with the game, so it "uses" a higher version of DirectX which does support higher resolutions.

But perryloo only wants FullHD, which should be within those limitations ?

I don't know, never can hurt to install old directX 9 (again), I think:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/down...s.aspx?id=8109

Also not sure how useful dxdiag really is. Startmenu, search for dxdiag, execute it, it will then show some information about DirectX.
Since I am not having such problem - always playing in FullHD fullscreen, worked from the get-go (win11, intel graphics) - I can't say if dxdiag would actually show helpful information in case.

PS - weird idea, would maybe lowering colours to 16bit allow for in exchange higher resolution?

You need dgVooDoo to run old games on a modern machine. It wraps old DX/Glide stuff in a container, which runs on modern Windows (7+).
