oh no, they should invite her to a taco night and take tequila shots with her

Like Jonah and Uchu when Lara is not around.

In fact, they react to Lara by hiding the tacos and the tequila when she shows up.

The grind and the cards are evidence otherwise. I'll keep my cynicism.

I like it but I'm expecting sooo much for this. Maybe hype failed my experience. I hope the next TR will be better.

Overall I like it but with caveats - as with all the reboots, there are things I like and don't like.

Shadow is my preferred reboot though, there are a lot more things I like about it than the others.

I think I'd go for 'I somewhat liked it' if that option was available.
I remember that I mostly enjoyed it while playing it for the first time, but the hype quickly faded and now there's some kind of stale feeling left. In retrospect the story was lacking a lot, as was the pacing and Lara's characterization. Gameplay-wise it still is my favourite of the Reboot trilogy, mostly because of the fun tombs and the toned down combat.

This started back in "Rise" with its weapons and inventory--to this day, I have yet to have a single save file where every weapon is fully upgraded...not to mention that whole card nonsense. They haven't stopped with STR and I'm willing to bet that they're not going to, either.
I don't see it. Resources are easy to come by if the player does any amount of exploring. The card packs you mention from Rise were heaped on the player just from finishing the campaign. The framework of XP, currency, and shops exists like it does in many modern games.

Taking Shadow at face value, it's a single player game with easy currency gain, not an online title with a transaction promoting grind.

For now.

Not all of them, plus you need an internet connection in order to unlock them after earning them.

And modern games are emulating free to play games.

I don't take it at face value; I go deeper. Really, though, all I'm saying is that I see the water starting to boil and if it does, I'm getting out of the pot before I'm cooked to death.
