Default Flare-Wall Bug

Guys, I've found a really interesting bug:

The video shows a custom level, but it works in TR4 & 5 too. You can teleport like any place now, without searching for a corner!

Wow, fantastic bug! Can you explain the steps in words, please? For example, exactly what happens between 0.09 to 0.11 in the video? Do you pick up the flare and/or crawl backwards?

Does the bug work in specific places only? And does it have limitations - like how high it will allow you to go, for instance? I guess you haven't tested all the permutations yet.

Thanks.

How to do it: Draw a flare as you approach the wall. Stop about a foot away. Draw a weapon, roll and holster the weapon as you roll to put your back to the wall. Hold Action and crouch. Lara backs into the wall and picks up the flare.

The bug doesn't work only if there's a room in the middle of the wall, like in the huge secret's ladder in Tomb of Seth.

Thank you. I'll try it out soon and see if I can do it.

This is, I dare say, one of the most useful bugs ever found, even more than the corner bug. The downside is that it works "only" in TR4, TR5 and custom levels.

A second way to do it: draw a flare and place Lara facing against a wall and turn about 10 degrees left. Draw a weapon (to drop the flare), roll and holster the weapon. Press Duck and Action. Lara will crouch, shift sideways about a step, back into the wall and pick up the flare.

^would it work without the weapon drawing as means to drop flare? how about if you just did "use flare" -> "throw flare" ?

can it be done facing wall, rather than back to wall etc.?

When you draw a weapon, Lara simply drops the flare where she is, but otherwise she will throw it, resulting in it bouncing off away from the wall. As for the second question, not sure.

Certainly a great find!

EDIT: Here are a couple pics I took after using it to finally get on top of that weird part in coastal ruins

Yes, if you stand 2 squares from a wall, throwing the flare leaves it at the base of a wall. But if you're running, a thrown flare travels over 4 squares! I didn't bother trying to to throw a flare while sprinting.

The flare must be close to the wall, so if you want to do this swiftly, it's important to place the flare in a careful manner. There might be a few places where you're running right next to a wall, and you want to do the bug several squares away; maybe throwing a flare could make sense in those circumstances.

BTW, I suggest drawing the flare BEFORE you near the wall, since you can't Draw before the flare-drawing finishes fully. Well, if you DON'T wait, the flare flies off in some useless direction.

I've never seen Lara move forward while picking up a flare. Certainly nowhere near the large backward movement.

cococomics_pres, nice pics.

so basically the way the bug works is that the flare must be right next to the wall, regardless of how it ends up there..
then you turn your back to the wall in some manner, whether its a roll or simply turning around manually..
then squat/action to pick up flare - makes her move backwards into the wall.. thus forcing her to the top of the ledge?

That's pretty much it - except if you do it at a wall that has a ceiling or goes to the sky, she doesn't move, but she can do trigger bugs.
