Arrow General Blender Render Thread - Tutorials and Help

by tombraidergale

This thread is for all discussion about rendering in Blender (just like we have a thread for Maya, 3ds Max and Cinema 4D). You can post useful tutorials that you found online here, share your own and ask questions. Let's keep everything in one thread!

I will collect all useful information and add it to the first post.

---------------------

Blender is an amazing open source program that you can use for modding, converting but also what this thread is all about: rendering!
It has got a bit of a steep learning curve in the beginning, but once you get the hang of it, everything will go very fast and natural.

Get Blender here: http://www.blender.org/download/get-blender/
(Most modders use version 2.49(b), but for rendering it doesn't really matter.)

Smile Using a laptop

A laptop can be a bit tricky to work with, but you can change a few things to make it all possible in the end. I strongly recommend you to buy a mouse (with at least three buttons: left, right and clickable scroller wheel), they are quite cheap anyway.

A laptop has no numpad, which can be problem since some functions that you will use a lot are assigned to the number keys! There is a way to get around that, a way that will allow you to use the number keys of the 'main keyboard' instead. Here is how:

Drag the bar on the top of the screen down, to reveal a hidden collection of options and buttons to play with.

Click on System & OpenGL and then on the Emulate Numpad button to enable it, like I did in the picture above. That's all you need to do.

I'm pretty sure you don't want to do that every time you start Blender. I know I didn't. XD

Blender can remember your user preferences, you can create your own 'start settings'. Just enable this Emulate Numpad button and drag the screen back up. Make sure you don't have any model loaded at this time (just get rid of the default cube as well, it's just in your way). Now when all is just the way you want it, press Ctrl+U. Blender will save your current settings and start exactly like this whenever you open the program!

I've added a new category to the list. XD
Everyone is welcome to show the work that they've made with Blender.

Oh ok thanks, didnt read it

------------------------

Test in Blender. Used Cloudi5's pose and used the lowering the spec method to make it not shiny. My first render in Blender so I will appreciate criticism...
