Default GDC 2012 [News & Discussion]

Game Developers Conference aka GDC 2012 takes place from March 5 through March 9 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California. Note that there will be another GDC called GDC Europe 2012 from August 13 to August 15 in Germany. This thread is for GDC 2012 which will take place in San Francisco, California.

Epic’s Cliff Bleszinski will host the 12th annual Game Developers Choice Awards and Monaco creator Andy Schatz will once again be hosting the 14th annual Independent Games Festival awards, according to GDC organizers. Both award ceremonies take place during GDC, Wednesday, March 7 at 6.30pm PST. Thanks, Gamasutra.
So far confirmed lectures on Upcoming Games are:
  • Diablo III (The session name is "The Art of Diablo III")
  • Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City (The session name is "Rigging a Resident Evil – Inside the Bone Code of Operation Raccoon City"
  • Hitman: Absolution (The session name is "Crowds in Hitman: Absolution")

So far confirmed talks are:
  • Sid Meier will be hosted a game design track called “Interesting Decisions” which will discuss how developers make interesting gameplay decisions and how to those “uninteresting decisions.”
  • Mega Man co-creator and ex-Capcom man Keiji Inafune will discuss “The Future of Japanese Games” at the conference.
  • Riot Games lead producer Travis George will host a production track titled “Evolving the MOBA Genre – The League of Legends: Dominion Postmortem.”
  • Halfbrick Studios designer Luke Muscat will look back at the development of the studio’s most recent mobile title with a session dubbed, “Depth in Simplicity: The Making of Jetpack Joyride.”
  • WB Games VP and general manger Laura Fryer will host “Kinematics and Other Techniques for Managing the Creative Process.”
  • Mod developer and thechineseroom creative director Dan Pinchbeck will host a lecture titled Dear Esther: Making an Indie Success Out of an Experimental Mod.
  • Taito chief game designer Reisuke Ishida will appear in the Design track, giving his first ever Western presentation, called “Five Techniques for Making an Unforgettable Game, Illustrated in Space Invaders Infinity Gene and Groove Coaster”
  • BioWare’s Adriana Lopez will give a talk entitled “Ownership – Dragon Age Style”
  • Composer Austin Wintory will give a lecture called “Journey vs Monaco: Music is Storytelling”
  • Marketing, & Management stream, the popular Ben Cousins, once of EA and now of Ngmoco, will give a talk called "When the Consoles Die – What Comes Next?"
  • Kasavin will discuss the difficulty of building “cohesive and meaningful moment-to-moment experiences”
  • “Witcher 2: How CD Projekt RED Sold Over a Million Copies of its Exclusive PC Game And How You Can Too” – CD Projekt RED CEO Marcin Iwinski
  • Sony artist Yoshiaki Yamaguchi will provide a behind-the-scenes look at the art direction of Vita’s Gravity Rush called “Bringing the Visuals of Gravity Rush to PlayStation Vita”
  • Double Fine’s Tim Schafer, Lee Petty, Brad Muir, and Nathan Martz will talk in a session called "“Creative Panic: How Agility Turned Terror Into Triumph”
  • Rocksteady art director David Hego will discuss ‘the evolution and creative process' in a session called "Batman: Arkham City – Journey from the Asylum to the City"
  • “Words With Friends: Building and Growing a Game on the Top of the Charts” – Zynga With Friends CTO Vijay Thakkar

Note: Crystal Dynamics will be there recruiting and will have a booth set up. Unknown at this stage if Tomb Raider will be shown but focus seems to be primarily on the new IP.

They didn't say anything about Tomb Raider. But Crystal will be at GDC. They will announce a new IP? Isn't that exciting too? I am excited in that new IP more than Half Life 3 announcement. God and Karl knows what it is.

They will be recruiting for the new IP. Also, there's no word on Half Life 3 being at GDC.

It wouldn't be hard to make a post about it on my thread- the reason I created it in the first place was to discuss it, not start a competition.

Yes they will be recruiting. I don't know how they do it but I was thinking they might announce the game while recruiting. No idea. And I was talking about future announcement of Half Life 3. Whether it is announced in 2012 or in 2020.
