Smile Fullscreen mode fix for Classics/TRLE under Windows 8

As I run windows 8 I was having the problem of TRLE custom levels not displaying in full screen properly. The game would always run with a border and title bar that was really distracting.

I know there is fix for the NGLE by adding a string into the option script but this does not work for playing custom levels downloaded from the net.

The problem was really annoying me so I set about trying to find a fix. I found a few and tested them all out but the best one that works is with Auto Hot Key.

I can't take credit for the solution as I found it on another web site, but i'll post the solution here in case anyone else wants a fix.

First you have to download and install the Auto Hot Key program: http://www.autohotkey.com/ (it's free by the way)

Secondly copy the script below to a text file and name it something like fullscreen.ahk (you may need to save it as a plain text document and then make sure that windows is set to show extensions for known file types) you can then change the .txt file to .ahk

This is the script, just copy and paste into notepad and follow steps above

^!f::
WinGetTitle, currentWindow, A
IfWinExist %currentWindow%
{
WinSet, Style, ^0xC00000 ; toggle title bar
WinMove, , , 0, 0, 1920, 1080
}
return

Once you have done that you then simply right click on your new fullscreen.ahk script and use Run as Administrator. You will see a small green icon in your task bar showing that the script is running.

Start your tomb raider custom level and press Control+Alt+f on your keyboard and you should now have TR in full screen without annoying borders and a title bar.

I've run a virus scan using Avast and Malwarebytes and there doesn't seem to be a problem with Auto Hot Key

Here is the link from the site I found this fix on: http://gaming.stackexchange.com/ques...de-in-any-game

Ah, sounds good! I will test this out when I get on my editing computer.
Maybe someone could email Paolone about this; it might help him fix this issue for Windows 8 users. But then again, I know he has a heck of a lot on his plate at the moment...

Trust me I was so relived when I found this fix (and it actually worked).

I tried 3 or 4 other methods, which involved installing other programs but none of them worked completely; even though they made TR loose the boarders I was still left with the windows task bar or a huge gap where the task bar was suppose to be. The method above actually makes things full screen again

Actually it seems to work with not only TRLE, but every other program which is run in windowed mode under crappy Win8.

The script must correspond current/native user display resolution settings:

^!f::
WinGetTitle, currentWindow, A
IfWinExist %currentWindow%
{
WinSet, Style, ^0xC00000 ; toggle title bar
WinMove, , , 0, 0, %screenhight%, %screenwidth%
}
return

In particular case the user must change %screenhight% to his own screen height and %screenwidth% to his own screen width. I.e. if you have 1024x768 resolution, then the script will be:

^!f::
WinGetTitle, currentWindow, A
IfWinExist %currentWindow%
{
WinSet, Style, ^0xC00000 ; toggle title bar
WinMove, , , 0, 0, 1024, 768
}
return

Let's give TRF members an opportunity to test that solution for TR2, 3, 4, not TRLE only

Moving and changing title. Thanks for the information

N.B.: AHK is a powerful tool and IT IS AS HARMLESS AS HARMLESS ARE THE MACROSES you program with it! Be aware of that please.

Thanks for pointing that out EscondeR, I forgot to mention about setting it to your resolution.

I am in the process of installing TR2 & 3 so I will let you know the results

Edit: Works with both, but TR2 seem's to be a bit fiddly...I still got some small border but after using Alt & TAB to switch to a different program and then back again to TR2 I finally got fullscreen with no border

Run ARDiag and post the report - some app is trying to conquer the focus.

Try to stop Classic shell stuff before running the game this way.

If this helps not, I'll look it through more accurately

I did what you suggested it still minimizes, im getting so p****off with windows 8 I seriously am!

UPDATE: After maliciously running around installing, uninstalling software I found the solution; MSConfig, all programs except Microsoft were disabled and now the minimizing of any full screen app has been rectified, thanks heavens! Thank you for your help.
