Default Special AOD 10th Anniversary Interview with Murti Schofield

Hey everyone!

On behalf of the Tomb Raider: The Lost Dominion Team, I would like to wish AOD a Happy 10th Anniversary! This game is a cult-classic for many TR fans, and no other Tomb Raider game like it seems to have had such an intricate story and left fans with such a hunger for a continuation. I still remember 10 years ago when I was vacationing in London during the summer, I was able to purchase AOD on the release date at a Virgin Megastore (remember those? ). Ever since then, this game has been one of my favorites in story, atmosphere, and level design – regardless of the bugs and controls. I’m sure many fans feel the same.

The TLD Team is lucky enough to be in active communication with AOD’s Lead Story Writer Murti Schofield, and in honor of AOD’s Anniversary today, we have created a podcast with our very own Jenni Milward (Greenkey2) interviewing Murti, asking him many of the questions that have been on fan’s minds for a very long time! We are hoping that this will be the first of many interviews with Murti, and perhaps somewhere down the line we will be able to organize a thread where everyone on the forum is allowed to post some of their questions they would like answered. I hope you guys enjoy this interview – it’s really quite wonderful to just sit back, relax, and listen to the passion and dedication in Murti’s voice for Lara, Kurtis, and the psychological journey the AOD series was meant to take us on.

Here is the link to the Podcast:

Feel free to post your feedback, comments, thoughts, and maybe also personal memories of AOD. And for those of you who haven’t had the chance to learn about the TLD project yet, be sure to check out our thread in the LE Forum.

Who else did write "shadow histories trailer" on youtube right after the end of the interview?

Anyway, I just loved what I heard, it amazing in so many ways! It's great how you guys keep TRAOD alive and big thanks to Murti for sharing his thoughts and memories with us. One things about TLD I was worried about is the atmosphere. I wondered if you will manage to reproduce that film-noire feeling of the original. Now though, with Murti's assurance TLD continues TRAOD's style I'm completely relieved. I want to say thank you and good luck with the Lost Dominion production!

I've read Volume I of the Shadow Histories and really enjoyed it. Started Volume II a few days ago and it's continuing to be a very good read and reminds me a lot of the AOD Universe.

Personally for me it seems that more than 10 years have passed and that the present is already too far for the story to take place in real time. Despite this, in 2003 this game was really groundbreaking and a huge step forward. I was really thrilled to hear Murti Schofield talking about Castle Kriegler. I still want to know more about Germany part as it was likely to be in a sequel and Core Design had already made some development on it and I still have a hope at least to see some more concepts. It would be interesting to find out how well does it match with what I imagine. Also, as the game was released unfinished the sequel had been worth to have if we would know about the unfinished things from the game first or unless it starts in Prague. I mean, 2 characters, the Shaman and Luther Rouzic were completely removed not to mention the other things.

I wonder what he would say if you asked him what he thinks about the new Tomb Raider.

It's a really fantastic interview! I've read it, and I'm also going to listen to it sneakily at work.

TLD is looking so ambitious and the people who are involved are so passionate about the subject. To have contact with some of the original team, including Murti, is pretty amazing. Thanks for posting, Snake!

So weird to hear people still talk with this much passion despite everything!

Edit: What exactly were they talking about at the end in regard to the guy who did Kurtis's voice with him doing a voiceover for something..?
