Found out about it today, thought it was worth sharing
![]() Lwmte and Raildex found this btw, I only recorded it- This is not a mod! it happens in all TR2 versions! (as you can see) the video is sped up, it normally takes ~20 minutes to fully take effect. Unfortunately this effect is only available in Bartoli's Hideout :/ also it doesn't appear to work on PSX at all ![]() Here are pictures to compare it, to make it clearer: Light: ![]() Dark: ![]()

Oh, what? Did anyone know about this?
![]() What a shame that this effect wasn't used in any other levels - though I guess for the Venice section it makes the most sense, since time is shown to have passed between each level. Imagine this in TR3 with the colored lighting, though... |

Have we figured out how this was achieved in the engine at all?

My mind is spinning right now. Is it a feature of the engine? Was it used elsewhere? Is it some kind if flipeffect? Could this still be in the TRLE version of the engine?

Woops reported me today that this effect is broken in TR2Main. I'll fix it as soon as possible. Thank you, Woops!
P.S. I knew that this effect is presented in the TR2 engine, but I've never seen how it exactly works. It seems with no tests, I've broken the feature while decompiling.

So what is the deal here? If you loiter in Bartoli's Hideout for long enough then the level becomes darker than usual? Is there a productive use for this, or is it nothing more than a difference in appearance? This certainly is an interesting discovery and it's quite peculiar why this would happen.
TR3 is dark enough as it is! ![]()

Would you go to the extent of calling this amazing? It certainly is an interesting find, but I can't see this being of any kind of use. I'm not trying to take anything away from this discovery; I just wouldn't go to the extent of calling this amazing.
